Known as the land of Sri Lanka's majestic big cats, Wilpattu National Park is home to one of the country's largest populations of Sri Lankan leopards, renowned for their striking appearance. The park derives its name from the numerous "Willus" (natural lakes) scattered across its landscape. In addition to leopards, Wilpattu is famous for its rich wildlife, including elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, mongooses, water buffaloes, and a wide variety of birdlife. You may also encounter wild boars, and if you're fortunate, witness the thrilling spectacle of a predator in action.

Admire the world-famous frescoes, often compared to the Gupta-style paintings of India's Ajanta Caves, and explore the fascinating museum to learn about the fortress's remarkable architecture, sophisticated hydraulic system, and ancient engineering techniques.

After exploring Sigiriya, continue to Minneriya National Park for an afternoon wildlife safari.
